Summary: Six ways their last conversation could have gone.

Notes: There might be some spoilers for The Realm of the Gods? Not really sure. Anyways, finally, FINALLY I wrote something for these two. I've been in love with them ever since I picked up Wolf-Speaker back in middle school, despite how much of a crack-pairing this is.

Faded

One day he makes a promise to see her once everything is over before he leaves.

She does not stop him.

One day no one comes, and his eyes are bright as he looks at her. "I've never," he begins, then interrupts himself with a shake of the head and a brief, odd laugh. He takes flight.

She watches as he leaves, and wonders what he was going to say.

One day she says, "Wait." He turns to look at her, steel wings beating in the air.

She says, "If you dare die, I'll hunt you down and make you wish you hadn't," and his laughter echos all the way to the realm of the gods.

One day she ignores his stench and the way he stiffens in surprise and wraps her arms tightly around his neck. "Be careful," she whispers fiercely, her eyes hot.

She feels him nod against the curve of her neck.

One day she whispers, "I wish you weren't a Stormwing."

He pretends he doesn't hear her.
