The person I wrote this for dropped out, though, so it ended up being a present for everyone. ♥ The pairing was chosen from a list that the original recipient provided, and the prompt was the following:

Hidden/secret identities (e.g. undercover as lovers, masquerade, anything you can think of!). I'd prefer the characters to not be in a relationship already.

I tried to make this clear in the fic itself, but to be clear, this takes place some years after the actual game, so Dawn is an adult.

Notes: So, I just remembered that I haven't posted this here yet, which is Not Good. This is the fic that I wrote for pokeprompts's Christmas fic exchange. My recipient was ainbthech, and this is what was requested:

Pairings/Characters: My favorite pairing is Kotone/Silver, though I usually prefer queer things. I'm not sure why Silver is allowed to be straight in my head when I don't extend this privilege to people I actually know. Also, everything is better with Gary Oak. Or Cynthia.
Acceptable Rating: G to NC-17 is fine, although I'm not looking for porn.
Prompt: So my ideaaaallll (and what I keep meaning to write but the outline I have is novel-length and I do not have the time) is Kotone and Silver in a long-distance relationship writing letters back and forth while she's doing Champion-type activities and he's off training/researching/brooding. Gender role angst is good! Negotiated non-monogamy is awesome! If you can work in a vegan/animal rights angle I will love you forever, and in general if you're like "Kotone/Silver god you and every other fangirl" then anything with a pokemon rightsy slant to it is likely to make me happy.
Don't Want: No extreme violence please, no abusive relationships without resolution, and also no Gen V plot spoilers --- I'm playing through it super slowly and may not be done by then.

I tried to get as much of that as possible in this, and then it...sort of ballooned into this. I'm actually pretty proud of this. I dedicated all of two days, plus some of third, to writing this and doing nothing else. I can't remember the last time I was so enveloped into a fic. I was even having dreams about this universe for weeks afterwards. XD I also experimented with a few things that I've never done before— the biggest of which was writing from a male point of view. I've done it for drabbles & such before, but for nothing of this length, and I'm kind of proud of how it came out. At the time of writing this, I also had never written any of these characters before. Not a single one that was shown in here. That led to quite a bit of panicking about characterization, but, again, I am rather happy with the result. Yes, there are plenty of things I wish I had had time to expand on, but for what it's worth, I'm happy, and I'm glad that ainbthech seems to be happy with this as well, judging by the comments left on the Secret Santa version of this post. Finally, writing this made me ship Silver/Green, which is a result that I am most definitely NOT displeased with.

I ended up writing a long commentary about this fic, which I posted here. I suggest you read the fic first and then the commentary if you're interested, since it spoils the whole fic.

Notes: So, I was thinking last night that it's a damn shame that I don't have anything Christmas-y to post on Christmas. And then I looked at the background I've had the last few weeks and was struck with inspiration. And then this came out. It could be a lot better, I'll be the first to admit, but I want to post it on Christmas so it'll have to do for now. (Also, title is terrible, ripped off from a Christmas carol, has barely anything to do with the story, and will be changed as soon as I can think of something better. Not much better, but still better! And I need to stop making the first sentence of my fic into my summary. And yeah.)

This was originally meant to be gen, just full of friendshippy happiness, and then Red/Green had to sneak its way into there and ruin everything. Sigh. Crossposting this to pokegamefic.

I came up with this idea two days ago, and wrote and edited it all today, so it's very much a last minute thing. If there's any errors, please forgive me and feel free to point them out.

Anyways, this is a slight AU, as Dawn's age has been changed up a bit to fit the plot, as well as some other changes. Also, this follows Diamond/Pearl more then it does Platinum. Just thought that I should give a heads up. I'm not entirely satisfied with the ending, and debated over whether or not I should put that last line in for forever. Therefore, I may rewrite this later, but for now, enjoy!
