Understanding
Sango understood, she knew. She understood she cared a lot about Inuyasha--Maybe even loved, a small voice in the back of her head would whisper--that she wanted to heal him, close the emotional wounds Kikyo had left him, heal him until his emotional state was as flawless as a child's.
She understood, and never pressed too much. She would laugh and tease and make her forget there was anything wrong, made her think the world was bright and happy, that everything would work out despite the few scary moments.
Even then, though, another voice would nag at her--This isn't right, it's too perfect, it's not supposed to be like this, you're wrong, you're going the wrong way, you've got it all mixed up--
She would ignore it, and paste on a bright smile as she tried to push the thought into the far corner of her mind, until it was forgotten.
Now though, she pulled it out, brushing the dust off, and listened--Maybe Inuyasha isn't the only one, everyone is breaking, can't you see that?--the voice rages at her, and continues, on and on, until she understands, finally, what she's been doing so wrong.
She looks at the elder girl's turned away face, and notices the tears quietly running down her cheeks, notices her trying to hide it.
She knows what she's done wrong, and now--
She reaches out, grabbing her hand, smiling up at her suprised face, a real smile, not one she's pasted on, and--
She's going to heal the one she's always needed, no, wanted, to heal.
