The joke had come easily to his tongue— it was not the first time that he had teased Hiei over his non-existent affections for him. The way that the other demon would snap at the implication had always amused him, and the words had slipped out as smoothly as ever.
Now that Hiei had gone, however, Kurama could not help but look down at his hand, feeling the phantom weight of Hiei's hiruiseki stone. He knew Hiei too well to ever think that his joke had been the reality, and yet—
He had chosen his human mother— Ningenkai, and all that it implied. Yet it was the ghost of Youko he felt, when he realized that he would do anything to have that stone— along with the one it belonged to— back in his grasp.
