Crossroads

For a long moment, Rikash studied the girl, heedless of the crossbow pointed at his chest. Her face was grim and set— he had no doubt that she would shoot him down as she had Zhaneh Bitterclaws, if given the chance.

And yet— the hatred that had boiled so fiercely in her eyes had faded. More surprising was the realization that he felt the same. Stormwing-killer she may be, and yet, there was something more about her that had not been there before.

The tension in his muscles lowered as he made his decision.

He hoped it was the right one.

a;sldkjaelkjr I never thought I'd see the day when someone wrote Tortall fic, much less someone whose writing I really enjoy! I was always really intrigued by this pairing, and I think you describe it perfectly here, the sense of easing animosity. I think the crossbow imagery is especially apt, not only because of Daine herself, but also because loosening the tension in a bowstring, hee.

eee, thank you! ♥ Rikash/Daine is one of my favorite pairings of all time, and I'm glad to see that someone else appreciates it! The Tortall fandom does have its dedicated following, actually, but it's mostly focused around either the Kel books or the Alanna ones, and it's not very big.

In any case, thank you so much for your comment! I was blushing and flailing all over the place when I read the 'much less someone whose writing I really enjoy' part, and it made me happy to see the little details that you picked up on.
